Meet your guide just a short walk from the Colosseum at your selected time and have a glass of wine or a soft drink with the rest of your group. After 15 minutes of refreshments and talking with the group you will then be given an introduction to this historical area. Enjoy a relaxed walk along the famous Via Fori Imperiali. View the incredible archeological site of the Roman Forum from the outside while your guide explains it's history and importance and shows you Trajan’s Market. Headsets will be provided where the guide will talk into a microphone so everyone can hear. This walking introduction will last approximately one hour.

Then enter the Colosseum and spend time looking in-depth at this ancient and hugely impressive archaeological site. Inside the Colosseum, your friendly and knowledgeable guide will explain how this colossal building’s construction took place. Learn of its wonderful yet sometimes terrifying history. Walk onto the reconstruction of the main stage, where all the action of the fighting took place and there you will have time to take pictures and imagine yourself as a Gladiator ready for battle. Head down to the Colosseum Dungeons, where the animals and Gladiators awaited their fate and hear of the atrocities that happened there. Then be guided through the Colosseum to the 2nd tier - where spectators enjoyed the ‘sports’ of ancient times. Spend 75 minutes inside the Colosseum.

You also have the option to join the extended tour which will take you to the Roman Forum. You will get exclusive after-hours access to the Forum area and also visit the newly re-opened Santa Maria Antiqua basilica. The extended tour is only available on Friday evening's.

The total tour duration is around 3 hours. Bear in mind that during the week in Rome the Metro service finishes early, at 11:30pm, so a taxi may be required to get back to your hotel after the tour has finished.

Unfortunately, the tour was changed from under the moon to an afternoon tour which included the arena and the Palantine Hill and Forum. The original was to include the arena and the underground . Our tour guide , an archaeologist, was well versed and enjoyed the history . This was our second time here and we enjoyed the tour. We spent about an hour and a half in the colosseum alone and another 1.5 hours at the Palantime Hill and Forum

Amazing tour of the Colosseum. We had the Colosseum to ourselves basically, only about 2 other groups there. We were able to walk around the arena and the upper areas with no crowds in our way. Plenty of time for pictures and questions. Well worth the price.

Colosseum at night is a must do! Don't expect much during the Roman Form walk however - that portion was very brief and is difficult to appreciate the locations being pointed out from the street as most of the site is in darkness. If the Roman Form is something you're looking forward to, book separate tour.
