Om den här aktiviteten
Your full-day tour begins at 9am when your guide picks you up from your Amman Hotel. You will travel through the Kings Highway for a panoramic view of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, and Wadi Mujib Siq, in the mountainous landscape about 55 miles (90 kilometers) south of Amman. Admire the amazing cliffs and gorges cutting through the landscape before reaching Kerak and its fortress, built between 1110 and 1143 B.C. during the Crusades.
Kerak City is set on a triangular plateau which rises 900 meters above sea level, surrounded by ancient walls forming the old city. Its castle, which forms the South Summit of the city, was built by the Crusaders after they took the city in the twelfth century A.D. Kerak city reached its historical peak during the Crusaders period when it was named the Desert Jewel.
Prior to occupation by the Crusaders, Kerak Castle was a station for the Archbishop and it held the Nazareth Church. The castle came under Muslim rule in the year of 1187 A.D. when Saladin sieged Kerak Castle; however, it did not surrender until 1189 A.D. Shortly after the Crusaders were expelled and Kerak came under the Mamluks and Ottomans period. The castle was abandoned after the First World Wa and is now considered a very important cultural site and ruins that should not be missed.
On your return to Amman you will stop for lunch at your own expense.
